 why don't you set up a Tiger and Leopard installation with the current
 macports and default gcc7 we have, and then run through a proper upgrade
 to libgcc14 on those systems such that it actually works like the one I
 last did for 10.6.

 And then once you have done that, install gcc5 and gcc7 at least, and see
 how painful that turns out to be or not be.

 Somebody has to do those steps, someday, if the update is to proceed.

 It seems to always fall to me to do that and -- it's about time somebody
 else stepped up.
