 none of this suggests that it is a matplotlib problem. The IPython in
 MacPorts is not up-to-date with the latest upstream release (I believe
 that you have your ports updated, but that’s something else). So the py-
 ipython port and its dependents should be updated to the latest upstream
 versions and if the problem then still exists I’m willing to take another
 look. I quickly checked upstream for matplotlib and there were no reports
 along those lines despite that this version of matplotlib has been  out
 for a while.
