 version on PyPI/GitHub". I upgraded to ipython 8.29.0, the latest release,
 and indeed I can now use the `MacOSX` backend. However, rebuilding the
 matplotlib font cache every time I issue `ipython --pylab` is still
 happening.

 Great - that's progress! I will take a look at the font cache rebuilding;
 I haven't seen that myself I think but might not have been paying
 attention...
