 Thanks for your response. Indeed my initial statement was inaccurate.

 I observed that [changeset:4ba0a58106305c74b760af62300054f23137e20d
 /macports-ports commit 4ba0a581] enforces the use of the new linker when
 using CLT version 16 or later.
 However, this change is merely revealing the issue rather than being the
 root cause.
