 I've prototyped attached changes in the Portfile which makes the `vala`
 bindings a variant. I didn't find any ports that depend on the binding
 being present.

 From the [https://guide.macports.org/chunked/reference.html Portfile
 reference] I understand that increasing the revision number is not
 necessary.

 I'm trying to open a PR, but my computer has been busy with `cloning into
 macports-ports ...` the whole morning...
