Comment:

 The change was made because a surprisingly large number of users were
 accidentally running MacPorts through Rosetta 2 without any intention to
 build for x86_64. Quite apart from performance issues if they end up
 emulating everything, building for arm64 that way sometimes led to weird
 failures.
