 Gentlemen, tried the above suggestion regarding stack trace limit to no
 avail. Now trying the pre compiled binaries next. It's now reporting a
 "segmentation" fault during compile. I wonder if one of the memory modules
 is bad. I bought it with a rather fishy composition of 133 and 100 modules
 and recently replaced a 128M module with a new 512M module, now giving me
 2x512+256=1.25G - a new 512M is ordered to replace the 256M module. The
 gcc is updated to apple-gcc 42. (see list of installed ports)
