 that has passed since the release of 0.28.0, we may now be able to find
 patches we can borrow from other package managers.

 Sorry, by "insanity," I meant everything you mentioned: Leaning a new API,
 understanding the differences between older and newer versions of said
 API, patching the various ports, etc. Basically all of the tediousness
 that comes along with the effort.

 But simply maintaining a segregated version for older ports would
 eliminate all of that. Why not just do that, and save yourself the
 headaches?
