 If one of the llvm variants were selected in your active cctools that
 could explain the problem you saw since the llvm variants give you an
 older version of cctools than what you get when you select the xcode
 variant. However, since you do have the xcode variant selected, I can
 offer no explanation for your gd2 build failure.

 We changed the rsync URL in late 2016. Have you endured this warning
 message for 8 years? Or are you upgrading a very old MacPorts installation
 that you haven't upgraded in years?
