fix for garbled Apache 1.x modules?

I suspect that this bug still remains in the Apache 1.x port:

I can't start Apache with either php4 or php5 without getting the  
following:

API module structure `php4_module' in file /opt/local/libexec/apache/ 
libphp4.so is garbled - perhaps this is not an Apache module DSO?


Anybody have a fix for this, short of upgrading to Apache 2?
