Macports Newbie - XServe use

Alright let me see if I can help. I will first need to know your setup
(i.e. mac os x server version, macports version, mysql version(s), and
exact installation steps up and until the point that you received your
errors). Here are some points to look at to try to find your problem
blindly. I do not know if you installed your Mac OS X Server with MySQL,
but you should make sure that you have no MySQL Server instances running
before installyin/upgrading MySQL. Run this command:

mysqladmin shutdown

Then install/upgrade mysql. I think this is the reason for the
mysql.sock error message. HTH
