Yes as well as using less memory for bytecode caching.

Presumably a force upgrade of all installed ports will recompile them  
for i386.

sudo port -f upgrade installed

I myself would take the opportunity to clean out stuff and start with  
a fresh /opt in a move from a PB to a Macbook.
