Unable to run 'ruby script/console'

Greetings:
After slamming brick walls, I managed to get one ruby appl running.

However, apparently not all the files were loaded.
Environment:
[/Users/Ric/workarea/ruby/shovell]ruby -v
ruby 1.8.6 (2007-03-13 patchlevel 0) [i686-darwin8.10.1]

[/Users/Ric/workarea/ruby/shovell]which ruby
/opt/local/bin/ruby

[/Users/Ric/workarea/ruby/shovell]ls -l /opt/local/bin/ruby
-rwxr-xr-x   2 root  admin  13412 Jun 27 11:05 /opt/local/bin/ruby*

[/Users/Ric/workarea/ruby/shovell]rails -v
Rails 1.2.3

[/Users/Ric/workarea/ruby/shovell]which rails
/opt/local/bin/rails

This is what I get when I attempt to run the console per Patrick  
Lenz's book:

Another brick wall.
