GCC fails to install

This may not be very helpful, but gcc41 and gcc42 install just fine
for me on an Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro. Not sure why it's not
working for you. What other ports do you have installed? And what
things do you have in /usr/local which might conflict with MacPorts?
What does "which nm" say on your system? On mine, I get "/usr/bin/nm".
