Future looks hazy (fortune bug)

When I upgraded fortune to 6.2.0-RELEASE fortune stopped working. 
Running fortune produces either no output or the following:
$ fortune
This fortune brought to you by:
$FreeBSD: src/games/fortune/datfiles/fortunes,v 1.179.2.8 2006/08/12 
20:30:09 yar Exp $

No other fortunes appear. Running fortune -D reveals the following:
$fortune -D
adding file "/opt/local/share/games/fortune/fortunes"
___% fortunes (/opt/local/share/games/fortune/fortunes, 
/opt/local/share/games/fortune/fortunes.dat, NULL)
summing probabilities:0% with 1 NO_PROB's
___% fortunes (/opt/local/share/games/fortune/fortunes, 
/opt/local/share/games/fortune/fortunes.dat, NULL)
pos for fortunes is 12075

/opt/local/shar/games/fortune/fortunes contains fortune files that are 
properly written.

Macports is properly updated to 1.600
