port list R*

works fine for me.

port cat R shows that the ported version of R specifically disables  
the Aqua GUI (--without-aqua) and looks like it basically builds an  
Xwindows version of R.

If you don't mind my asking, what's wrong with using the R GUI app  
that is provided on the CRAN?
