Unable to install gimp2

No, you need X11 and XCode according to the MacPorts install  
instructions. See the items marked 1 and 2 on the install page:

http://www.macports.org/install.php

The error "configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables"  
implies you dont have XCode installed.
