zlib upgrade

Over the last couple of months I have been unable to upgrade zlib - each time
getting the error messages shown below. Is there any sort of problem with
this port or any way to fix the upgrade?

Building zlib with target all
Error: Target org.macports.build returned: shell command " cd
"/opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_ports_archivers_zlib/work/zlib-1.2.3"
&& make all " returned error 2

...

make: *** [libz.a] Error 1
Error: Unable to upgrade port: 1
