Unfortunately, the vast majority of port maintainers only have one
Mac to test on. When problems are encountered on other systems, we
can commit fixes for those.

I do apologize that you've encountered some broken ports, but I don't
believe that's an accurate statement in general.

It's up to the developers of gnome-desktop whether they fix it to
work on Mac OS X again or not. Keep an eye on their bug report:
