it still does if it's a single-arch:
% file /opt/local/lib/db46/libdb-4.6.dylib
/opt/local/lib/db46/libdb-4.6.dylib: Mach-O 64-bit dynamically linked
shared library x86_64
(just not if it's 'fat').
