Did you upgrade from Leopard, and if so did you previously have  
MacPorts installed in Leopard, and if so did you follow the migration  
procedure and reinstall all ports now that you're on Snow Leopard? See:

If that's not it, then please "sudo port clean PORT" where PORT is the  
name of whatever port failed, and then "sudo port -d install PORT"  
where PORT is whatever port you were trying to install, then send us  
the complete debug output so that we can try to figure out what went  
wrong.
