Apache won't start (was: Re: Help needed...suddenly nothing works)

Hi:
Apache2 was running before the reinstall (I did a full uninstall and reinstall). But now:
The response from ps was:
alis-imac:~ ali$ ps auxw | grep httpd
ali 1093 0.0 0.0 2435084 564 s000 S+ 5:20PM 0:00.00 grep httpd
alis-imac:~ ali$
Telnet to localhost or 127.0.0.1 get me connection refused.
pointing the browser to 127.0.0.1 times out or gets me a server not found.
