Atlas also seems to be the source of a lot of recent build issues with
numpy. I've also found it to be temperamental when building on my new
i5 MBP; in fact I've recently started build numpy with -atlas and
scipy with +no_atlas (maybe they should be made consistent, but that's
a topic for another thread).
