Once again, I'm sorry, but I can't send email directly to "eborisch" due to mailer incompatibility (in this day and age!), so I'm forced to send it here.  There's a problem with py26-spyder.  Details are below.

Spyder wound up linked to the 1.8.7 version of HDF5, while the actual HDF5 library was version 1.8.8.  I had to forcibly uninstall and reinstall Spyder, HDF5, and py26-h5py to get things to work.
