texlive: need variable def for TFMFONTS

In the standard (which I assume is full) install for texlive,
what do I need to set for TFMFONTS ?  I keep trying to run TeX
on a file, and after getting TEXINPUTS right, TeX keeps whining
that it can't find any of the TFM fonts.

Here are the errors TeX spits out:
