How do I install an older version of Boost?

Normally I'd continue to lurk since I have little experience in all things Mac and or MacPorts, but here I do have some knowledge, mostly out of dumb luck and that same lack of experience.

A few weeks ago I began to move a project that we currently use in Windows and Linux to a Mac. To do so I simply downloaded existing packages we install for CMake and Boost from our local storage and on to my Mac where I expanded and installed as needed. The Boost we use includes an install shell script, is version 1.44 and my project builds with that version of Boost. Hence a possible solution for you might be to independently download the version of Boost you need and install it outside of MacPorts.

I do note that "port search boost" also shows boost @1.49.0 (devel) on my system. My suspicion is that we are using a few hard coded paths pointing to development libraries that are end-runniing where MacPorts puts things.

I will now shut up and go back to lurk mode ...
