MacPorts 2.3.2 and "port provides"

I just did a selfupdate to 2.3.2, and when I try to run

sudo port provides /private/opt/local/<some/path>

it always says

/private/opt/local/<some/path> is not provided by a MacPorts port, e.g.

[15:24] nightowl:~ % port provides /opt/local/sbin/sasldblistusers2
/private/opt/local/sbin/sasldblistusers2 is not provided by a MacPorts port.

What did I biff?

According to "grep", "sasldblistusers2" is listed in

so why isn't "port provides" finding it? I ran "port" under "dtruss"
and I can see it open() the registry.db database ...
