Yeah I see what your are saying and must agree to some extent. I have had
my share of problems with port upgrade outdated too although it's mostly
limited to removing problematic packages and re-installing after upgrade is
done.

On my servers I use EzJail to slice server into smaller more manageable
pieces so upgrades for me are much easier because I have less software and
dependencies in each Jail and makes it a lot less painful.
