Perl/Tk

I've got a sudden urge to add a graphical front-end to my myriad Perl
scripts (puzzle solvers, crypto tools, device controllers, etc), and
Perl/Tk seems to be just the thing; I've already bought the books :-)

However, it seems to be unsupported on the Mac, with comments like does
not work with Quartz, needs obscure mods to the build process, etc;
however, these comments date from almost the last century so I'm starting
to doubt their veracity.

I know about Tkx, but it's largely unsupported and undocumented i.e. very
much a work-in-progress, and I'd prefer to use something a little more
mainstream in my stuff (especially since I've spent over $100 on the
O'Reilly books!).

So, is anyone working on porting Perl/Tk to the Mac? I was using it on my
Penguin box with X11 forwarding over an SSH connection, but it's in
mid-upgrade right now, and I'd prefer a native Mac implementation.

It seems odd to me that Perl/Tk exists for all platforms except the Mac;
is Quartz really that hard to work with? Heck, "wish" works OK...
