Wxmaxima not linking to Maxima

I have circa 2011 macbook air running High Sierra 10.13.6.  used Macports
to install Wxmaxima:  Wxmaxima doesn't link to Maxima....seems to be a
problem with other attempts to install wxmaxima...any solution?
