 Darn.  Lost my posting when I attached the second log file.

 Firstly thanks for your help.

 I guess I failed to mention that I did a "sudo port clean transcode" and
 retried the install before posting.  My apologies.

 So I did another "sudo port clean transcode" and re did the install
 command as above.

 It still fails.

 I did a diff on the two log files and see there are differences.  I don't
 know enough about code to be able to figure out what is wrong or how to
 fix, so would appreciate any help.
