Interactive applications to be installed to /Applications/MacPorts?

OK, thanks for the explanation.  I tried using 'port selfupdate' a  
while back and it didn't want to upgrade me to the latest so I  
downloaded a newer version and installed it over the old one.  I was  
afraid that in the process I had somehow retained an obsolete link.
