How do I tell what variants I used to install a port?

The list command is used to display the list of ports available and
their versions. port list outdated lists the portfile version of the
outdated ports.

You should use 'port outdated'.

You should use 'port installed php5' to get the info. It will also tell
you which variants you slected.

Yes, the variants you selected get preserved by upgrades (as long as
they still exist, and unless some bugs...)

Just remember that list is generally not interesting. The different
commands you should remember are install, uninstall, upgrade, outdated,
installed, variants, and info.
