Install fails for gcc42 - libgfortran.a has no symbols?!

Yes, I saw the ticket you mention related to Snow Leopard, and as you
say that's a very different error.
As far as I can judge by the debug messages during the configure
phase, there is no way to specify the -arch flag for this port of
gcc42 - though since I know so little about this sort of thing, I
could easily be wrong. Wish I could be more helpful.
