upgrading somehow broke XeLaTeX?

Uninstalling, cleaning (except ports starting with k - see above), and reinstalling.  The problem is unchanged.  I'm going to have to see if following the uninstall instructions and starting from scratch helps because I need to be able to include png files tonight.
